GOtv Cecafa Senior Challenge:Burundi beat Somalia




Burundi handed Somalia a 2-0 beating in their opening match of the ongoing GOtv Cecafa Senior Challenge Cup on Thursday. Burundi, the more experienced side of the two, kicked off the match on attack, but by the half-hour mark, they were yet to get the ball behind the Somalia keeper.
However, they found their luck five minutes to the break, with the goal coming through Nduwarugira Christophe.
Ten minutes into the second-half Burundi’s Fiston Abdulrazak sent a thundering shot past the Somalia keeper doubling his side’s advantage.
After the match, Abdulrazak was named the man of the match. Speaking of the match, the player said that the day had started out tough but they later relaxed and made a meal of their opponents.
“It was quite a tough match, especially at the start, as we looked to compose ourselves. We managed to solidify our structure towards the end of the first half and we were rewarded for it,” said Abdulrazack.
Of their upcoming match, against Zambia, Abdulrazak said that they will try their best and get out with full points.
“We do not want to fall to easy goals, so we shall be more vigilant in the match, especially because we know that Zambia is very tough side.
After the match Burundi are perched at the top of Group B, after the match between Tanzania and Zambia ended in a 1-1 draw.
