Suleiman Kassim Suleiman broke the deadlock in the fifth minute capitalizing from a school boy blunder by South Sudan keeper Awad Goma Genaro who dilly dallied with the ball and was then stripped off it by Kassim who then rolled it into the net.
However the goal did not dampen the spirit of the Sudanese who fought gallantly forcing Zanzibar to defend with Bengal based James Joseph Mogga being in the thick of things with his darting runs in the Zanzibar defence.
Abdiyum Saleh Ahmed added the second goal for Zanzibar in the 67th minute just five minutes after coming in turning the heat on South Sudan before as he scored past a sprawled Genaro in South Sudan's goal.
South Sudan scored their consolation goal in the 74th minute when substitute Fabiano Elias Lako collected a pass from hardworking Mogga before finishing off clinically.
The win ensured Zanzibar went to the top of group A with three points
